STATEMENT BY PATRICIA DE LILLE, LEADER OF GOOD
I DEMAND THAT THE DA STOP USING MY NAME TO CANVAS FOR SUPPORT.
Today I was in Mitchells Plain to encourage residents to register to vote over this coming weekend. I was shocked to hear from a number of households that the DA is telling voters that I am still a member of the DA.
I was told by residents that DA canvassers arrived this week to ask them to sign up with the DA and to register to vote. They told the residents that they were there at my request. The residents were confused and shocked when I arrived today and asked them to support GOOD.
I had to explain to them that they had been lied to. The GOOD news is that they readily signed up with GOOD. However that is not the point. The DA’s conduct in using my name, and lying to residents, is disgusting and dishonest.
The hypocrisy of the DA knows no bounds. They spent 2 years and about R2 million in legal fees trying to get rid of me – for no legitimate reason.
Their conduct was deeply dehumanising. Yet, they feel they need to use my name to canvas for support. Their campaign in the Western Cape is increasingly desperate and this is just another sign of the mess they are in. I took a video of one of the residents in which she explains what happened.
I will send that video to DA Leaders demanding an explanation for their misleading voters. I will also be reporting this disgusting and dishonest conduct to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).
I demand that they stop using my name to try win support.
I encourage all South Africans to use this weekend to secure their right to vote. Please register to vote.
